Good Ol’ Summertime

It has been excited and busy, and I have not gotten to write much on my blog. The last summer before my oldest goes to school and I am trying to do lots with him. We went to the beach last weekend. Very nice! If anyone is looking for a good clean beach in Texas visit Surfside Beach near Freeport. I give it two thumbs up!  Back at the store we have been busy with classes. Lots of interest in beginning class. It always seems that I get in the middle of class and remember about the camera to take a pic. But it has been crazy and no pictures have been taken. Just image 8 people all excited and sewing bags with two sewing machine. (some were first time sewers!!) WOW! What a class, I was definelty tired after that one! We have made pillowcases, pot holder, pincushions and looking for more things to make. The other class that we have coming up is a t-shirt decorating class. Any ideas other there of what else we could make?

Busy making the samples and setting the dates for classes this summer. I hope that lots get to come and enjoy!

First off I so excited to say that every Tuesday Night will be dedicated to Scrapbooking and Stamping!!!!

Yeah! I am starting to get my stuff organized so I remember what I have. I don’t know what I am going to start on first because I am so behind!

Kids Classes will start on June 16th with the Heather Bailey’s Square Deal Pincushion. Super Cute and Super Easy to start with and an essential that you need when sewing!

The following week June 23rd we will try our hand at making pot holders. Just to get use to the machine and different stitches.

You can catch the corner of the pot holder. That class starts at 2:00.

We will also be sewing pillowcases, back by popular demand.

June 30th at 2:00

There will also be adult classes in there also. We will be attempting to complete the Old Glory by July 4th.

Classes start on June 12th. You will need to get your fabric before to cut your pieces.

June 18th will be a Stars and Stripes Table Runner. Really Fun!

We will even start to get ready for the fall with a Pumpkin Paper piecing on June 27th starting at 10:00.

This class will be taught by Martha Ward. We will break for lunch and be finished by 2:00 pm. The class and supplies are $25.00.

If you are interested in any or all of the classes please let me know. I would love to have you come to my home and sew!

Finally

Filed under: Quilting, Sewing — Tags: — Sarah Hahn @ 1:41 pm

I finally got a chance to look at Andrew’s birthday pictures. His party was on May 3rd. He had a great time opening presents but I think my favorite picture is of him when he ate his cupcake.

I think he likes it!

I scheduled a class yesterday for the end of June to do paper piecing. Originally it was suppose to be a pumpkin but I am thinking it might need to be a watermelon or flag. Something closer to the season.  Check back to see what it turns out to be.

Yesterday was a really big day. I don’t have the pictures to prove it yet but will post them maybe tomorrow. The camera is in the truck and I have the Tahoe. Anyway, My baby turned 1 year old yesterday and had a bang up birthday. He had lots of fun playing with new toys and walking around. My oldest son signed up for Kindergarten. He is super duper excited and is telling everyone he knows about it. Even the UPS guy who politely was excited for him also. I have been working on finishing the chicken dance table toppers. I think that I am finished now. I will just give my mother hers unfinished because she likes to embroidery and she can finish the little chicky legs. I also machine quilting a small throw and small flag wall hanging.  Very Very Busy. I will post pics. soon.

Adorable Baby Contest

Well this week flew by really fast. I guess every week does. Some of the highlights of this week. I entered Andrew in the Adorable Baby Contest, we should find out results on Mother’s Day.

I think it is a winner.

I also have been working on the cutest table topper called the Chicken Dance. I am not finished with the details yet but wanted to post it. I still have to embroidery the legs. I also found little tiny buttons for the eyes. I think it will be a great mother’s day gift for my mom. When I was small my mother would listen to polka music on Saturday mornings while she worked in the kitchen and I would love when the chicken dance would come on. Those were the days. I will have this in a kit on my website and in the store if anyone is interested in making their very own chicken dance table topper. I also am attempting to alter a prom dress for someone and prom in next week. I need to get moving on that.

We had two t-ball games this week for Seth. His team is doing loads better than when they started. Way to go Seth!

The baby is sleeping so I better get busy on my other work before he wakes up.

Beginning…

We started a series of classes last night for quilting. It was interesting and as always I forgot to take pictures. I thought teaching young kids is demanding, adults can be equally as demanding. Ha Ha!

I let my son Ethan pick out the fabric for the sample. I almost am sorry about that that because I really like the others that picked flowers and such. Ethan picked the racecars.

Beginning Piecing

Basic principles of piecing a quilt top

  • 1. Sew 1/4″ seams. Small stitch length to keep the pieces tight.
  • 2. Have to have borders around the edge to pull the quilt top together
  • 3. Cutting is important! If you pieces are not straight to start with you cannot sew them straight. Be accurate.
  • 4. Quilting is a labor of Love!

Basic Square Pattern

Fabric Needed

1/4 yard of five assorted pieces

1/8 yard of thin inner border

1/4 yard of outer border

3 yards of backing fabric

1/2 yard of binding

low loft quilt batting

Cutting

Cut the five assorted pieces into 8 inch blocks. (They will turn out to 7.5 when finished)

Cut the inner border into 1 inch strips

Cut the outer border into 3 inch strips

Sewing

Sew the blocks together in five rows of five.

Sew the inner border around.

Sew the outer border around.

Bunny Bunny

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — Sarah Hahn @ 1:41 pm

Just had to share this picture. Two weeks ago we had a class to make Easter Bunnies.

Some faired better than other. The soft fur we used to make them made LOTS of teeny tiny pieces and they floated into space. Some of the space was our noses. Achooo!!!

The finished project was well worth the pain and suffering! :)

We used the White Rose Cuddle from Shannon Fabrics and the Wag around Wabbits pattern from Cotton Ginnys. Let me know if you are interested in making some.

I am currently working of the Chicken Dance Table Topper from the Fons and Porters lasest magazine. I will post photos soon.
